Chopin Waltz in Ab Op.42 Edited and Fingered by Thomas F Dunhill
Lengkick published, printed in England
Chopin’s Waltz in A-flat major, Op. 42, composed in 1840, is often celebrated as one of his finest waltzes. Known for its lively and virtuosic character, it is sometimes referred to as the “Two-Four Waltz” due to its interplay between duple and triple rhythms. The piece opens with an eight-bar trill, inviting listeners into its intricate dance-like structure.
The waltz features five intertwining themes, each bringing a unique mood—from light and playful to dramatic and expressive. Its mesmerizing coda and virtuosic passages make it a favorite among pianists and audiences alike. Interestingly, though none of Chopin’s waltzes were intended for actual dancing, this one captures the spirit of a ballroom with its elegance and energy.
